Lesotho Nativity Set:  Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, and lamb
If you visit the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho, you will notice immediately the sheep and mohair goats that are grazing on the mountainsides.  They are always accompanied by the "madisana", the shepherd.  Young boys are taught to care for their animals at a very young age.  Nearly every boy you meet on the road will be carrying his "malamo", stick, that most times is decorated in bright colors.  The young madisana uses his stick to guide his sheep or goats, to protect them, and oftentimes to establish his rights as a madisana of the mountains.  Stick fighting is a popular sport among the shepherds.  The mohair goat is agile and suited for climbing the steep mountain passes.  The Basotho shear their sheep and goats in the fall, providing for them a source of income.  Mohair, sheared from the angora goats of the mountains, is one of Lesotho's biggest exports.  These nativity sets are handcrafted from the Lesotho mohair.  Price:  $45.00
